He added: “Today’s fire may be an intentional act of sabotage or the result of technical error, ignorance or negligence, and in all cases the cause must be known as soon as possible and the perpetrators must be held accountable.”

He stressed that “today’s work should focus on studying effective measures so that what happened is not repeated.”

Aoun requested the formation of a committee headed by the Minister of Works, which includes representatives of the security services and the port company, to establish a new organization to work in the port and guarantee public safety in it.

In turn, the head of the interim government, Hassan Diab, considered that “what happened today in the port of Beirut, regardless of its causes, is a new stab for all Lebanese and a great disdain and insult to the State and society” . And he said: “Investigation to determine responsibilities must be expedited, and there must be answers. Clarify people’s questions.”

It is noteworthy that a meeting was held to bring Aoun to Diab before the “Supreme Defense” meeting.
