The governor of the Banque du Liban arrived during an interview with Hadley Gamble on CNBC.
Salameh explained: “This decision is due to the strategic continuation that was proposed to get out of the crisis.”
He rejected “the accusations directed at the Banque du Liban in terms of being behind the crisis”, explaining that “the Central Bank is not behind the deficit.”
Salameh went on to say that “the central bank has always demanded to reduce the deficit”, emphasizing that “the central bank did not cause a deficit in current accounts”, noting that “the deficit at these two levels during the last 5 years has cost the country 81 billion dollars “.
The governor of the Banque du Liban stressed that “it is not the Central Bank that is behind the deficit at these two levels.”
