Officials from the Armenian National Security Service conducted a search at the home of Grigor Grigorian, the former deputy defense minister, who was summoned to the agency’s headquarters, according to the media.

Ashot Gregorian, son of the former security official, said he does not know the reason for the raid, adding that those in charge of the raid did not reveal the intention of the operation and that his father is still in the National Security Agency building.

The son of the deputy interior minister added that his father had not been involved in any political activity for a long time and had not participated in the rally organized by the opposition in Yerevan to demand the departure of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Earlier that day, Artur Vanitzian, former head of the National Security Service and leader of the opposition party “Patria”, had been arrested on charges of preparing to usurp power and attempt to assassinate the prime minister.

Armenia has witnessed, in recent days, riots and protests calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, after announcing his acceptance of a ceasefire in Karabakh (in a statement issued by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan) , in a measure that Azerbaijan described as practically meaning “the surrender of Armenia.”

On the night of November 10, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Ararat Mirzoyan, was brutally beaten by protesters.
