The US elections … “acts of violence” in Oregon

USA Today reported that the National Guard was deployed in Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday to contain the violence that occurred during the protests, while vote counting continued in several states in preparation for the announcement of the presidential election result.

The Portland protests began peacefully, but subsequent tensions and “widespread violence” necessitated the deployment of the National Guard, according to the newspaper.

Oregon State Police Capt. Tim Fox said in a video posted to Twitter Wednesday night that Gov. Kate Brown activated the National Guard in response to “rampant violence” in Portland.

Fox spoke of “acts of sabotage” at night, but denied knowledge of the presence of people carrying firearms, according to some reports.

Fox confirmed that “law enforcement officers are monitoring two groups in the area.”

The Multnomah County mayor’s office reported “significant damage” and at least nine people were arrested.

Several cities in the United States, including New York and Detroit, have also witnessed election-related protests in which Republican candidate Donald Trump lags behind his Democratic opponent, John Biden. So far, the outcome has not been announced because some states have not decided on the outcome.
