The United States imposes sanctions on Turkey

On Monday, the United States imposed sanctions on Turkey and affected the Military Industries Corporation. The US Treasury imposed sanctions on the head of Turkey’s Defense Industries Authority, Ismail Demir, as well as the Military Industries Authority.

The sanctions also affected the head of the Turkish Military Industrialization Organization and other officials. It was mentioned earlier that a source in the US National Security Council reported on Monday that President Donald Trump will sign the sanctions resolution against Turkey in a few hours.

The source said Trump will sign the decision to impose sanctions on Turkey “shortly.” On Friday, the US Senate finally passed a defense funding bill that includes sanctions on Turkey, which will target major arms manufacturers and several Turkish businessmen.

These sanctions fall within the “Kasta” law, in the context of Ankara’s purchase of the S-400 missile system from Russia.

On November 2 of the same year, Trump signed it into law.

Ankara’s purchase of the “S-400” system in 2019 generated tensions with Washington. In February of the same year, Turkey announced its refusal to respond to US pressure to complete the agreement with Russia, stating that the matter is not a discussion area.
