According to the United States Department of the Treasury, sanctions are imposed on the judge, Lorena Carolina Cornelis Louise, and the plaintiff, Ramón Antonio Torrez Espinosa, for their role in the trial and conviction of 6 US citizens of “CITGO 6”.

On November 27, 2020, the Venezuelan judiciary issued prison sentences of 8 to 13 years against 6 former US directors of “CITGO 6”, a company linked to the United States affiliated with the Venezuelan oil giant “PDVSA”.

Venezuelan authorities detained them 3 years ago in the capital, Caracas, and convicted them of corruption and links to criminal gangs.

The administration of outgoing US President Donald Trump is the biggest supporter of the Venezuelan opposition led by Juan Guaidó, who is considered by the United States as interim president.

Trump has repeatedly pledged to do everything possible to “combat socialism” in Venezuela and the government of its president, Nicolás Maduro, in particular, and in the context of this approach, Washington imposed a wide range of painful sanctions on the country.
