With the growing popularity of International Women’s Day, men in the 1960s felt they had been marginalized. That is why the American journalist John B. Harris in 1968 demanded that men miss a day equal to International Women’s Day.
“This strikes me as unjustified discrimination, an injustice in the settlement,” Harris wrote, the same statement women make when claiming their rights.
During the following years, nothing extraordinary happened to adopt an International Men’s Day, with the exception of some events in the United States, Australia and Europe during the 1990s, which did not achieve their goal.
But in 1999, things turned around when Jerome Teluxing, a history professor at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, organized events on November 19 to celebrate the man, the same day as his father’s birthday.
There are six pillars or goals set by International Men’s Day, which are to promote positive male role models, celebrate men’s positive contributions to society, focus on men’s health, and highlight discrimination that may be exposed.

On the same day, November 19, the United Nations celebrates International Toilet Day, and this year it placed a huge model of a toilet in front of its headquarters in New York City, in the United States.
The United Nations says on its website that International Toilet Day is celebrated, to draw attention to those who lack access to safely managed sanitation facilities.
These figures exceed four billion people. The event also aims to take measures to address the global sanitation crisis and achieve Goal 6 of the goals of the sustainable development plan promoted by the United Nations, which aims to make water and sanitation services available to all for the 2030.
The United Nations says that wastewater contains valuable energy and water. Sustainable sanitation systems use waste productively to promote safe agriculture and to reduce emissions and capture them for green energy purposes.
