The new strain of the Corona virus in Great Britain has caused a state of terror around the world, along with some countries starting the vaccination phase against the virus.
Experts said that the new strain of the emerging corona virus “SARS-Cove 2” requires stricter restrictions to curb its spread, at a time when countries such as the United Kingdom began comprehensive vaccination campaigns for the population with vaccines against Covid-19. .
According to the British newspaper “The Guardian”, warnings about the new strain of the coronavirus that was discovered in the United Kingdom and spread to other countries, remain important, as confirmed by scientists.
The new strain carries a mutation called “N501Y” in the Corona virus protein, and this mutation is present on the surface of the viral protein and allows it to adhere to human cells to penetrate it.
The University of St. Andrews, Moog Civic, says scientists have detected more than 4,000 “SARS-Cove 2” mutations, but few of them are significant, according to their description.
He added: “It’s difficult to perform with the new breed, especially since it came before the Christmas season, when families plan to meet over the holidays.”
Professor Andrew Hayward, Professor of Infectious Diseases at University College London and a member of the Emergency Scientific Advisory Group (Sage), said: “London and the South East are far ahead, but it took two weeks for the infection rate to rise, by which I think will be inevitable. Tighter restrictions are needed across the country.
And he continued: “As always, it is better to proceed early if we want to avoid as many deaths as possible,” noting that “tightening restrictions to limit transmission can provide protection to the largest possible number of people at risk.”
“The restrictions will provide more weeks during which we can vaccinate people and save tens of thousands of lives,” he added.
The spread of this new strain of the Corona virus prompted British authorities to re-impose lockdown measures on London and parts of England, including some 16 million people, according to a report published by Agence France-Presse.
Hayward said: “I think we already have enough information to know that the new variable in the virus is capable of causing a major epidemic worse than we expected,” explaining that the speed of the outbreak of the new strain could raise the death rate.
And the British government announced on Sunday that it will hold a meeting of its crisis cells on Monday, after several countries closed their borders to visitors from the UK in the context of monitoring a new strain of the Corona virus. at a time when the United States confirmed to monitor emerging developments “very carefully.”
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the new change in the virus makes it “more transmittable” by up to 70 percent, but studies are still ongoing.
