Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the Russian-Turkish Center for Monitoring the Ceasefire in Karabakh has nothing to do with the mission of the Russian peacekeepers there.

Zakharova said in an interview with the channel “Russia 24” on Tuesday, “There has been information transmitted from the Russian Foreign Ministry about the establishment of a joint center with Turkey, based in Azerbaijan.”

He continued: “It should be clear here that the discussion is not about the peacekeeping activities mentioned in the joint statement, but about another mission, and another part of the joint efforts, and a distinction should be made between these two tracks. different “.

Russian news agencies quoted a source from the Foreign Ministry as saying that Turkey’s role in the peace efforts in Baqara Bagh will be limited to participating in the work of a ceasefire monitoring center and that it has no direct relationship with the Russian peacekeeping force.

The source said: “It has been decided that the Russian army, with its Turkish counterparts from this center, will monitor the ceasefire using available technical means.”

He explained that the peacekeepers, who will be deployed along the line of contact in Karabakh and in the Lachin Corridor linking Karabakh with Armenia, are Russian forces.
