Excluding a further postponement of the Lebanese parliamentary consultations
Mandatory parliamentary consultations will begin on Thursday by Lebanese President Michel Aoun to appoint the president in charge of forming the new government, in the expectation that the path of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri to return to his previous position will be “safe and secure.”
Thursday’s consultations come a week after they were postponed by a sudden decision by the President of the Republic, at the request of his brother-in-law, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, according to political sources. Bassil objected to Hariri’s return to head the government, as he is a politician and not a specialist, especially since one of the conditions for forming the new government is that it be a government of specialists in order to obtain the support of the international community.
However, political sources pointed out that the deputy Gebran Bassil this time lacks the capacity to interrupt the consultations that will inevitably end with the formation of the leader of the Future Movement, Saad Hariri, for the fourth time since he entered the political arena after the murder of his father, Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, on February 14, 2005.
The sources exclude the possibility of surprises that will prompt the postponement of the consultations for the second time within a week, saying that Aoun can no longer extend the transfer of consultations, unless Bassil takes the initiative to “invent a new adventure to postpone it” , especially since the latter is a “precedent” in this field. According to what a former prime minister told “Al-Sharq al-Awsat”, he preferred not to be identified.
Political sources consider that Bassil “lost the training battle that he fought alone despite all the logistical facilities provided by the President of the Republic, and now he is preparing to fight the authorship battle, beginning by observing the ministerial formula that Hariri will present as soon as it is assigned ”, to make sure you will consider your opponents or allies to ask Treat it the same way.
