Obeidat assumed his position as head of the Ministry of Health last October, and before that he held the position of President of the Epidemiology Committee in charge of monitoring the developments of the Corona virus.

The Council of Ministers will hold an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss developments in the accident, while the House of Representatives will also hold an emergency session on Sunday to discuss the incident.

Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh had called for an “immediate investigation into the accident”, stressing the need for “all those responsible, if proven, to bear the consequences in accordance with the provisions of the law.”

The head of the Public Ministry, Judge Youssef Dhiabat, told the official channel Al-Mamlaka, that “three prosecutors have initiated investigation procedures to find out all the circumstances of the accident.” According to a medical source, “the deceased are four men and two women,” noting that “the hospital cares for about 150 patients from Corona.”

For weeks, Jordan has witnessed an increase in daily infections with the coronavirus, and on Friday the numbers reached 55 deaths and 7,705 new infections, bringing the total to 464,856 cases and 5,224 deaths.

On Wednesday, the government decided to increase the night curfew hours, ban the celebration of Friday prayers and Sunday Masses, and close public parks, nightclubs and sports centers.
