A CNN source said the first lady “presented her idea directly, as she used to do with her husband, the president.”
CNN had previously reported that Trump’s son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner is reaching out to him to urge him to “acknowledge” the election result and his rival’s victory.
But a spokesman for the Trump campaign, Jason Miller, denied this in a tweet Sunday morning, saying: “This story is wrong.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s sons Donald Jr. and Eric are trying to win the support of Republicans to challenge the election results and tell allies that they really believe the election was “rigged.”
During their recent conversations, Eric Trump told his father’s allies that he believed the election had “robbed” us, according to a source familiar with his comments, and vowed to work to cancel the results.
Donald Jr. has made unremitting efforts to pressure some senators and governors to issue statements in support of Trump, according to people familiar with the talks, CNN says.
And Trump’s kids aren’t the only ones encouraging the president to fight a legal battle rather than give in.
CNN said there are also those who encourage Trump to fight an uphill legal battle, such as his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and longtime top political advisers Corey Lewandowski and David Bossi.
In the days after the election, Donald Jr. traveled to Georgia, and while there he held a press conference denouncing the state’s vote count.
People familiar with the matter said he also held meetings that focused on the upcoming Senate elections.
