The President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, said at the beginning of the Supreme Defense Council meeting: “It is no longer acceptable to make mistakes of any kind that lead to such a fire, especially after the disaster caused by the first fire.”
He added that “today’s fire may be an intentional act of sabotage or the result of technical error, ignorance or negligence, and in all cases the cause must be known as soon as possible and the perpetrators held accountable.”

He stressed that “today’s work should focus on studying effective measures so that what happened is not repeated.”

The head of the interim government, Dr. Hassan Diab, said at the beginning of the Supreme Defense Council meeting: “What happened today in the port, and whatever its causes, is a new stab for all Lebanese, and a great disdain and insult to the State and society “.

He added that “the investigation must be expedited to determine responsibilities and there must be clear answers to people’s questions.”

The plumes of smoke still rise from the port of the Lebanese capital, while the fire brigades, in cooperation with the Lebanese army, try to put out the fire, but its frame expands as it spreads to other sectors of the interior of the port.
