Ramallah: aPalestinian medical sources told AFP on Tuesday that the Palestinian Authority launched a vaccination campaign against Corona in the occupied West Bank by injecting its medical personnel, after receiving 2,000 doses of Israel’s Modern vaccine.

On Monday, an official from the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the arrival of 2,000 vaccines out of the 5,000 that Israel had previously announced its agreement to transfer to the Palestinians, following pressure from the United Nations and non-governmental organizations.

In a report broadcast on Palestinian state television, Palestinian Health Minister May Al-Kailah and several members of the medical staff appeared while receiving the vaccine.

“We start today, and tomorrow we will send these vaccines to the Gaza Strip, even if it is only two thousand doses,” said Al Keela.

He emphasized: “Giving health personnel in Palestine the highest priority … especially those working in intensive care units for coronavirus.”

On Monday, Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh announced that the first batch of the vaccine, which will contain fifty thousand doses, will reach the international Kovacs platform.

Shtayyeh expected “the arrival of the first batch of vaccines, which the government contracted to buy, at the end of this month or early next.”

And the Palestinian Authority announced last month that it had signed four contracts to obtain vaccines, including the Russian vaccine, which will be delivered in two months and will cover 70 percent of the population.

The occupied West Bank had more than 108,000 wounded and 1,325 killed in Corona, while the besieged Gaza Strip had around 52,000 wounded and 523 killed.
