The national team continues to prepare for the Asian qualifiers

Under the leadership of Lebanese coach Joe Mujaez and his assistant, Jad Al-Hajj, the Lebanese basketball team continued their preparations for the second window in the fourth group of the 2021 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The training, which began on the fourth of this month, it was completed with the participation of the majority of the players, after the naturalized player of the national team Atar Majouk joined. Wael Araji, a professional from the Qatari league, and Ali Haider, a professional from the Bahrain league, also recently returned. These preparations come to face India on the twenty-seventh of this month, and with the Iraqi team on the twenty-ninth day. The last game played by the Lebanese team last February was in the first window, when they defeated Iraq (87-68), and then in the same month Bahrain (116 73). The Lebanese team leads their group, followed by the Bahrain team, India and finally the Iraqi team.

The players finally received an important moral boost, after the Lebanese Basketball Federation announced the start of the Saloua season in mid-January, after suspending the effects of last season due to the repercussions of the Corona virus and the suffocating crisis economic crisis that hit Lebanon. The Lebanese player seems hungry for the return of competitions, especially since the majority of the national team, especially the youth team, do not play matches and have not obtained professional contracts abroad, as happened with Ali Haidar, Wael Araji and Etter Majok. As for the players who live outside of Lebanon, the majority play some matches and train with their teams abroad. Despite the cessation of activity in Lebanon, Lebanon has a good chance of leading its group and qualifying for the Asian final, especially if it completes the exercises in earnest during the next period, before moving on to the third window in February next year. In this context, the Basketball Association revealed that it sent a letter to the Ministry of the Interior and Municipalities in order to obtain an exception to allow the team to continue training at the Al-Riyadi Stadium in Al-Manara during the general closure period that begins on Saturday to limit the spread of the Corona virus, which lasts for 15 days.
