Beirut: The Media Office of the Lebanese Presidency announced on Saturday that the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, did not interfere in the investigations of the investigating judge, Fadi Sawan, in the case of the Beirut port explosion, nor from near or far.

In a press release issued today, the office said: “Visual, print and audio media published statements and analysis that included complaints about the responsibility of the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, in the matter of the investigations into the painful bombing. occurred in the port of Beirut on August 4, and so on. He was succeeded by martyrs, wounded and seriously damaged in the capital.

The statement clarified that President Aoun did not interfere “neither soon nor from a distance in the investigations carried out by the investigating judge on the crime of the bomb attack, although he called on more than one occasion to expedite its completion to discover all the related circumstances with this crime and determine the responsibilities, especially towards the relatives of the martyrs. And the injured who lost loved ones and relatives, and have the right to know who was responsible for the disaster that occurred.

The statement stated that “during the meeting held by the President of the Republic with the Supreme Council of the Judiciary last Tuesday, the discussion did not address the investigation of the port crime, so that everything that is circulated about the request of President Aoun to intervene in the investigation is false and unfounded ”. .

He pointed out that “the discussion in this meeting was limited to the work of the courts and the need to activate them and other issues that concern the Superior Council of the Judiciary.”

The statement adds that “the first time that the President of the Republic was informed of the presence of quantities of ammonium nitrate in deposit No. 12 of the port of Beirut was through a report from the General Directorate of State Security, which arrived on July 21 “.

The statement read: “Upon reading it, President Aoun asked his military and security adviser to follow up on the content of this report with the secretary general of the Supreme Defense Council, which includes all relevant security services and ministries. , and this is what has already been done in accordance with the current law and regulations. “

The statement adds that the Secretary General of the Supreme Defense Council informed the military and security adviser on July 28 that he was addressing the issue, and that he sent a letter to the Ministry of Works, which I received on Monday, July 3. August.

A devastating explosion hit the port of Beirut, leaving more than 200 people dead, 6,000 injured and massive damage to the port and many buildings, leaving some 300,000 people homeless.

On August 10, the Lebanese government forwarded the file of the Beirut bombing to the Judicial Council headed by Judge Sawan.

In the previous period, three defendants in the port’s explosion file were arrested in his absence, in addition to the 25 detainees in the file.

The judicial investigator, in the file of the attack on the port of Beirut, claimed yesterday Thursday the acting Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, the former Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil, and the former Ministers of Public Works, Ghazi Zaiter and Youssef Fenianousi, for the crime of negligence and negligence.
