Today, the Lebanese Parliament issued a decision stipulating that the accounts of the Banque du Liban and all departments, ministries, institutions and all state facilities in Lebanon be subject to criminal scrutiny.

This came during a session of the Lebanese Parliament, during which a letter from Lebanese President General Michel Aoun on the forensic accounting audit of the Bank of Lebanon accounts was discussed.

Aoun had requested in his letter that the appropriate decision be made so that the state could conduct financial audits of the accounts of the Banque du Liban and of all public facilities in the state.

It should be noted that Aoun’s message to Parliament came after Dr. Ghazi Wazni, Finance Minister of the Lebanese interim government, announced a few days ago that the company “Alvarez and Marsal” had terminated the agreement signed with the Ministry of Finance. Lebanese for criminal accounting audit of Bank of Lebanon accounts amid talks about Bank of Lebanon reluctance to release information. The company is under the guise of the Lebanese Currency and Credit Law and the country’s bank secrecy law.

This decision comes at a time when the Lebanese economy is going through a critical situation, where the state debt exceeds $ 92 billion with a growth rate of zero percent and amid the demand for reform from the international community and the end of the corruption files due to the high exchange rate of the dollar against the collapse of the local currency, when it reached the exchange rate of one dollar. On certain days, on the black market, it reached 9,000 Lebanese pounds, after being pegged for years at 1,500 Lebanese pounds.
