The head of the interim government in Lebanon, Hassan Diab, said, during a meeting dedicated to discussing the rationalization of subsidies, that medicines and flour are a red line for the government.

This comes at a time when the Prime Minister discussed yesterday with the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Rital Salameh, to lift subsidies on basic products.
A statement issued by the Cabinet said: “The meeting discussed the plans of the ministries to regulate the cost of imports and subsidies,” and Salameh presented the cost of importing goods for the years 2019 and 2020.
“The country is facing a crisis and we are trying to rationalize the financing of imports and we are looking for a way that does not harm people and reduces the cost of this import,” Diab said during the meeting.
The meeting coincided with protests in Beirut and Tripoli against the lifting of subsidies, as dozens of protesters blocked a main road in the center of the capital with burning tires before security forces reopened it.
