Prince Khalifa bin Salman was born in 1935, two years and a few months after the birth of his older brother Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the father of the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Prince Khalifa began his practical life in his father’s government office, where he was a court clerk who entrusted him with many tasks directly from the ruler, most of which focused on citizens’ affairs, especially social aspects.

Prince Khalifa graduated from positions until he was appointed in 1960 as head of government finance, and this was the last position Prince Khalifa held during the reign of his father, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the ruler of Bahrain at that time. moment.

Prince Khalifa was appointed president of the State Council in 1970, and hours after Bahrain’s independence, his brother, the ruler of Bahrain, Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, issued a decree to reorganize the state administration, where the name of the Council of State was changed to Council of Ministers and from President of Council of State to Prime Minister and members of Council of State to Ministers.

Prince Khalifa is called “the architect of independence” as he laid the foundations for state-building and the rebirth of Bahrain, and witnessed all the challenges and threats it faced. For nearly 50 years, Khalifa bin Salman, along with his brother Isa, undertook the efforts of political and diplomatic negotiations with France, Great Britain and the United States to gain support and international support for the independence of Bahrain, which took place in 1971.
