The Kremlin said on Friday that the emergence of US forces in Ukraine would increase tension and push Russia to take additional measures to ensure its safety.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov considered that Ukraine’s statements about the possibility of the appearance of American soldiers on Ukrainian soil are unacceptable and inappropriate, noting that Russia does not threaten anyone.
The Kremlin’s comments come as a comment on the previous accusation by the US State Department that Russia is carrying out “destabilizing” actions in Ukraine. In addition, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said that Washington had promised to provide support to Kiev in case the situation worsened in the Donbas region (on the Ukraine-Russia border).
A statement issued by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the US Defense Secretary stressed that “in the event of an escalation of Russian aggression, the United States will not leave Ukraine alone.”
Commenting on this, Peskov said: “There is no doubt that such a scenario (the emergence of the US military in Ukraine) will lead to increased tensions near the Russian borders, and this will require additional measures by Russia to ensure its security “.
In response to a clarifying question about the nature of these possible measures, Peskov replied that “everything necessary” will be taken.
