The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has opened a new military naval base in the city of Serik, which overlooks the Strait of Hormuz on its (east) side, in an area of 31 hectares.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Revolutionary Guard, Major General Hussein Salami, said during the inauguration ceremony that the base is located at the most important strategic point in the region in the area of defense and offensive matters in the waters of the Gulf and the Straits. of Hormuz.
He added that the base is a qualitative leap in the field of carrying out combat operations and reconnaissance operations in Gulf waters, as he said.
He stressed that the establishment of the base began in 2014, with the aim of fully controlling the movements of ships, their entry and exit through the Strait of Hormuz, the waters of the Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard previously announced the joining of 188 homemade drones and helicopters to the guards’ naval fleet.
The Revolutionary Guard Naval Forces Command said that these aircraft will provide the ability to monitor marine movements in the Guard presence area, and use them in operations carried out by the Revolutionary Guard Navy.
He added that 3 drones capable of taking off and landing vertically were unveiled, and another drone called “Muhajir”, which is capable of covering a distance of more than 200 km, and carrying out missions in difficult weather conditions.

At the same time, the commander of the naval forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ali Reza Tangsiri, said that the Revolutionary Guard had sighted the USS Nimitz 5 days ago and its battle group before entering the Strait of Hormuz and the waters of the Gulf. .
Tangsiri added that the Revolutionary Guard can monitor all maritime movements in the Strait of Hormuz, the waters of the Gulf and the Sea of Oman through its drone.
Tensions have risen between Washington and Tehran since US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the P5-Germany deal with Iran over the latter’s nuclear program in 2018.
Washington reimposed sanctions on Tehran, which about a year later breached some of its obligations under the agreement, which was signed in Vienna in 2015.
