The Information Office of the Presidency of the Republic issued the following statement: “In relation to some media reports on the file of Prince Abdul Mohsen bin Walid bin Abdul Mohsen bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, nicknamed Prince of Captagon, and the Presumed role of the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, in his launching and lifting of the travel ban, refers to the media office of the Presidency of the Republic, refuting such accusations, which amount to slander and a moral assault on the position of presidency, clarify the following:

First: On 10/26/2015, the Emir was arrested after attempting to leave Rafic Hariri International Airport aboard a private plane, trying to smuggle 1900 kg of Captagon in his luggage.

Second: on March 27, 2019, the Mount Lebanon Criminal Court issued a judgment against him.

Third: on April 26, 2020, he was released at the end of his sentence, with a travel ban.

Fourth: On May 2, 2020, a request for a special pardon for the Emir of the Minister of Justice was presented to the office of the Presidency of the Republic, presented by him and registered under number 142 / p / 2019.

Fifth: On July 21, 2020, the request for a special pardon received from the Ministry of Justice was returned, with the President’s decision to reject it and to “reject the request for pardon in accordance with the opinion of the Pardons Committee”.

Sixth: On the same date, that is, July 21, 2020, the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Beirut lifted the travel ban on the aforementioned Emir, who left Lebanon on July 24, 2020.

Given these irrefutable facts, the Office of Information of the Presidency of the Republic is interested in drawing the attention of all the media to the need to obtain information from their sources before accusing someone, in order to avoid drawing emotions from their Instead, deceive public opinion and provoke a moral assault on the target whoever it is.
