The European Union mission in Lebanon announced in a statement: “Four months after the tragic explosion that shook the port of Beirut, the European Union, the United Nations and the World Bank Group launched today, during a press conference virtual, a response plan based on the principle of ‘people first’.
Help Lebanon meet the urgent needs of those affected and address challenges related to governance, recovery and reconstruction. “
The statement indicated that “the 3RF meets the urgent needs of the population affected by the explosion that killed more than 200 people, injured more than 6,500 and destroyed thousands of homes and properties in the capital, andThe comprehensive response to the aftermath of the explosion links immediate humanitarian assistance with recovery and reconstruction efforts in the medium term, with the aim of putting Lebanon on the path of sustainable development. It is also based on the comprehensive principles of transparency, accountability and inclusion. “
The statement noted that “the framework aims to achieve three core objectives:
1- A people-centered recovery that meets their basic needs, restores their livelihoods, improves social justice for all, and ensures a participatory approach to decision-making.
2- Rebuild critical assets, services and infrastructure that provide everyone with equitable access to basic services and allow for a sustainable economic recovery.
3- Implement reforms as a prerequisite to restore confidence, support reconstruction, and improve governance.
During the press conference held at the United Nations House in Beirut, the Ambassador of the European Union in Lebanon Ralph Tarraf, the Deputy Special Coordinator of the United Nations in Lebanon, the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Najat Rushdie and the Regional Director of the Middle East Department of the World Bank, Saruj Kumar Jah.
