The leaders of the European Union agreed to expand the list of individual sanctions against Turkey for exploration work carried out by the Eastern Mediterranean.

In this sense, the summit commissioned the European Council to draw up an additional black list, based on the resolution adopted on November 11 last year on “restrictive measures for Turkey’s illegal activities in the Mediterranean.”
The statement indicated that the European Union intends to coordinate its steps and actions towards Turkey and the situation in the Mediterranean with the United States.
The situation in the eastern Mediterranean was one of the most important items on the current summit agenda.
At their previous summit in early October, European leaders called on Ankara to come up with a “positive bilateral agenda” and abandon unilateral steps in the Mediterranean, Cyprus and Libya, as well as stop harsh rhetoric towards the European Union and its designated members. , mainly France and Greece.
Greece insists that the eastern Mediterranean waters, which Turkey is exploring, belong to its continental shelf and to the Cyprus shelf.
