The Nidaa Al Watan newspaper wrote:

It is true that the International Conference for Syrian Refugees in the Palace of Conferences in Damascus ended quickly, but the long suffering of the refugees has not yet ended, nor the suffering of the neighboring countries that host them, among which Lebanon stands out. the country most affected by their displacement to their land. Consequently, the Lebanese delegation, led by the interim government Minister of Social Affairs, Ramzi Musharrafieh, will return with “Hefei Hanin”, without achieving “the apparent victory”, since the Damascus conference has nothing to do with the displaced persons and their return, but only aimed to demonstrate the role of the president of the Syrian regime. Bashar al-Assad and provide him with cover. Displaced Syrians cannot return to their homeland, despite their strong desire to do so, except after fulfilling several conditions, perhaps the most prominent of which is Assad’s departure, because they fear for their life and safety, knowing that truly He does not want them to return so that he can continue with the population control policy. Furthermore, this return can only be achieved under the international coverage provided by donor countries, which is not available at this time, as evidenced by the reluctance of these countries to participate in the conference. Lebanon’s participation remains out of place, as it is feared that it will consolidate its adherence to the axis of resistance. It remains that the return of the displaced will not materialize until a political solution to the Syrian crisis is found and Syria returns to international and Arab embrace.

The Damascus conference concluded with an emphasis on “continued efforts for the return of the displaced” and “firmness in the face of terrorism and the unity of Syrian territories.” Damascus stated in its final statement that it “will continue its efforts to ensure the return of the displaced from abroad and ensure a decent life for them.” The Syrian government affirmed its readiness “not only to return its citizens to the homeland, but to continue with all efforts to provide them with a dignified life.”

The statement called on the international community to “assist in that process and facilitate the safe return of Syrian refugees”, and called on the international community and relevant United Nations agencies to provide the necessary support to displaced and displaced Syrians, and to “support Syria and the host countries to guarantee their legitimate and inalienable right of return.”

The countries that participated in the conference emphasized “affirming strong support for the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria, and confronting all attempts to undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The statement added: “There is no military solution to the crisis in Syria, and the solution is political, led and implemented by the Syrians themselves.” He rejected “all illegal unilateral sanctions, especially in light of the spread of the Corona epidemic.”

In the closing session of the conference, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad said that Western countries fought at the conference “not to expose their practices of supporting terrorists and displacing Syrians.”

The director of the Russian-Syrian Coordination Center for the Return of Refugees, Mikhail Mezentsev, announced his country’s readiness to provide what Syria needs to solve the refugee crisis, adding that the participation of 27 countries in the conference confirms its importance and the importance of the return of refugees, and said that “the conference confirms that the door is open for the return of Syrian refugees to their country.”
