The director of the World Health Organization’s emergency program, Michael Ryan, said at a press conference today, Monday, December 28, 2020, that despite the severity of the pandemic, which has caused more than 1.7 millions of deaths and tens of millions of injured in a year, the world must prepare for the worst.

Ryan said: “This pandemic is very borderline and has spread rapidly in various parts of the world and has reached all corners of the planet, but it is not necessarily the worst.”

The official of the World Health Organization acknowledged that the Corona virus “spreads very easily and kills humans”, but stressed that “its mortality rate is relatively low compared to other new diseases.” He stressed the need to “prepare in the future for what could be worse.”

In the same context, WHO adviser Bruce Aylward considered, at the same press conference, that despite the achievements made in the fight against Covid-19, including the production of effective vaccines in record time, the world still it is far from ready to fight future pandemics.

Aylward said: “We are in the second and third waves of this virus and we are not ready or able to handle it yet”, emphasizing that “although we are more prepared, we are not fully prepared for the current pandemic and we are less prepared for the next one.”
