With the death of Al-Saadawi, the literary and intellectual arena lacks an upper-class writer, as she was truly one of the most controversial personalities, and she knew how to move the inhabitant of Arab culture by calling her to educate, elevate and liberate the half of society, who has suffered for you and still has much of the power of male society. Several months before his death, Al-Saadawi said: “We live in a time without love, so how can love be in a time without humanity, and is love the relationship between a man and a woman? We found that relationships have become purely commercial based on interest, so that everyone who traded in medicine and literature was successful, but whoever did not traded was not successful.
El Saadawi began writing at an early age and published his first collection of short stories in 1967, under the title “I learned love”, and a year later he released his first novel, “Medical Diaries” based on his work. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cairo in 1955, and specialized in diseases of the thorax, and through her work as a doctor, she noticed the psychological problems that women suffered, and from that moment she assumed the defense of women . cause and considered it a life problem for her. Hence in 1981 she participated in the creation of the magazine “Al-Mawajah”, which deals with feminist issues. That same year she was arrested along with a large number of Egyptian intellectuals and released after the departure of the president. Mohamed Anwar Sadat.
Al-Saadawi was subjected to fierce campaigns by conservative currents, and several cases were brought against her in anticipation of the separation between her and her late novelist husband, Sherif Hatata, forcing her to travel outside the country in 1988, and taught at Duke. University of the United States of America, the University of Washington, the Sorbonne University and even Jamaica. He returned again to Egypt in 1996.
Due to his bold views, a lawyer filed a lawsuit to revoke his Egyptian nationality in May 2008, but the Administrative Court rejected the case.
In 2020, American Time magazine chose her among the list of the 100 most influential women in the world. Nawal El Saadawi devoted most of her writing to defending women’s rights. She was also interested in her research and intellectual work with an interest in Women’s Affairs. He also participated in international conferences related to this topic. In 1979 she was chosen as a consultant. For the United Nations in the “Women in Africa Program”, and in 1982, the “Association of Arab Women in Solidarity” was established.
He has won several international awards, including the “International Etana” award from Switzerland and the “North and South” award from the Council of Europe, and held various administrative positions in the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
