The Christmas atmosphere returns to “Notre Dame”

The “Metrez de Notre-Dame de Barre” choir is performing a Christmas Eve concert without an audience at Notre Dame Cathedral, which was severely damaged by fire in 2019, French capital Bishop Michel Obote announced on Monday.

Obote said in a statement that this “eventful celebration” led by choir director Henry Chalet will bring together “twenty adult choir singers” and will be conducted with “full respect for established health standards.”
A special organ will be hired for this occasion, while the cathedral organ is carefully dismantled for cleaning and restoration.
Tonight will be broadcast live on television, as it will be the third event to be held at Notre Dame Cathedral since the fire that caused extensive damage on April 15, 2019, according to “Agence France-Presse”.
On April 10, Bishop Michel Obote presided over a “meditation” ceremony on Good Friday in a cathedral devoid of believers. During the evening, Bach melodies were performed and texts by the French poets Paul Claudel, Francis Jaem and Mother Teresa were read. On June 15, Michel Obote held a mass inside the cathedral, which was attended by about thirty people, half of them priests.
Keep in mind that those responsible for the restoration work are racing against time to achieve the goal set by French President Emmanuel Macron of restoring the cathedral in five years.
