The Arab Peace Initiative is no longer needed

“The Arab Peace Initiative is no longer needed,” said Kelly Craft, US ambassador to the United Nations, at a Security Council hearing on the state of peace in the Middle East. “The experience of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, has led to peace, our vision is possible and we have worked hard to present the peace plan and it is full of details,” Kraft said.

“The 2002 Arab initiative is no longer necessary. The deal of the century opened new horizons for the Palestinians,” he added.

Saudi Arabia affirmed its adherence to the peace initiative launched by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz in 2002. Last September, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz expressed his support for US efforts to bring peace to the Middle East, considering that the Peace Initiative Arab Peace of 2002 is the basis for a solution. Comprehensive and fair “ensures that the Palestinians have an independent state with East Jerusalem as their capital.”

Last week, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged Saudi Arabia to “normalize its relations” with Israel, but despite pressure from the Trump administration for months, the kingdom confirmed that it would not follow the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in their violation of the “Arab consensus” that stipulates normalization with Israel on the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
