Ten Syrian opposition figures called on the British government to impose sanctions on Asma Al-Assad, the wife of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, and members of her family (Al-Akhras) on charges of corruption.

The ten opponents who signed the letter, Riyadh Hijab, George Sabra, Abdul Basit Sida, Louai Safi, Muhammad Sabra, Suheir Atassi, Amna Khawlani, Adeeb al-Shishakli, Abdel-Rahman al-Hajj and Wael al-Ajji, addressed the British Foreign Minister saying: “These sanctions have been imposed. It came in close coordination between the governments of the United States of America and the United Kingdom and therefore we call on your government to accelerate similar measures.” And they considered that “their adoption of such measures will send a message of hope to our people and a strong message to the rest of the people that the United Kingdom will not be a safe place for those who persecute their people.”
