The great Lebanese artist Edward Al-Hashem passed away at the age of 88 as a result of complications from cancer that he suffered in recent years.
The head of the Union of Radio, Film, Television and Theater Representatives, Nima Badawi, confirmed to “Al-Nahar Al-Arabi” the death of Al-Hashem, considering that Lebanon and the Arab world lost a great artist from the giants and the first generation in the field of Lebanese performance, after a march full of outstanding works.
The deceased began his career in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation as a writer, continued his studies at an evening institute and obtained a degree in accounting and business correspondence in both Arabic and English, and obtained a postgraduate degree by correspondence from one of the institutes. from London, before continuing his studies in public administration at the American University of Beirut.
And he entered acting through his participation with civil defense teams in episodes under the name “En las Procesiones de la Luz” for Lebanese Radio, then began working for Lebanon TV, when director Chakib Khoury invited him to record. plays and episodes.
The 1960 play “Mother” was his first work on television. As for the cinema, his first participation came in the movie “The Explosion” in 1982.
The deceased has a large number of works, the most prominent of which are: “The Master and the Professor”, “Escape Jaya Al-Qafoura”, “Layali Scheherazade” and “Captain Bob”, the last of which was in the series “Thani” in 2019, where he was the guest of honor.
