The World Institute of Health at the American University of Beirut has warned of the reality of the Corona virus outbreak in Lebanon. The institute posted on “Twitter” a graph, a statement warning that the number of active cases in Lebanon is the second highest in the Arab world, indicating that the total number of active cases is estimated at 17,234, or 2,628 per million inhabitants ( according to figures from yesterday Friday).

The institute warned that these numbers are raising the alarm, given that these cases are the main carrier of the virus. The institute indicated that the rate of positive cases – the percentage of people who test positive in comparison with the total of people who undergo tests – is 4.25%, highlighting the importance of this factor.

The institute went on to say that over the past 15 days there was a large discrepancy between the rate of positive cases among residents and expatriates, 8% and 5%, respectively.

Regarding deaths reported are increasing among the elderly, the Institute warned that 22% of the 328 injured people are under the age of 60 in Lebanon, and emphasized that these figures will change as the health sector reaches its maximum capacity. Yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health, Lebanon registered 1,143 new cases of coronavirus and 4 deaths.
