Talks with Russia on Karabakh continue

Turkey announced the conclusion of the first round of technical talks with Russia on the establishment of a joint center to monitor the ceasefire in the Karabakh region, which is being disputed between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement that it concluded the first round of talks with a Russian delegation that arrived in Ankara yesterday, noting that talks between the two sides are scheduled to resume in the coming days.

Earlier, the ministry confirmed that a second meeting with the Russian delegation will be held today at its headquarters in Ankara, noting that talks continue between the two sides to determine the shape of the center to be established.

The ministry stressed “the need for Armenia to implement the terms of the tripartite agreement between this country, Azerbaijan and Russia, and withdraw from the rest of the disputed territories.”

The Turkish defense confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation in Karabakh and “will not allow any concessions”, expressing “Ankara’s readiness to provide various kinds of support to Azerbaijan, if necessary.”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently signed an agreement to halt hostilities in Karabakh, with Azerbaijan preserving the sites it regained control during the latest round. escalation, and the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the Region.
