Four people were injured as a result of the collapse of a building under construction in the city of Beit Sahem, in rural Damascus, and one person remains under the rubble.
Social media reported that the building under construction was a six-story building built in contravention of specifications, which was confirmed by Mayor Radwan Shabika, who said the building was built from 2012.
He said in a statement to the local radio “Al-Madina FM”: “It seems that the building does not meet the technical specifications, although it is within the organizational area.”
Shabika indicated that one person is still under the rubble and work is underway to save him, and that those who were injured are workers.
Building collapse incidents increased in Syria following the ongoing crisis in the country since 2011, and last August 4 people were killed in the collapse of a 4-story inhabited apartment building in the city’s Al-Salheen neighborhood. from Aleppo.
Last February, 11 people were killed in the Salah al-Din neighborhood of Aleppo as a result of the collapse of a 5-story building located in a rape area that was damaged by the fighting in the city.
The reasons for the collapses are due to the expansion of the phenomenon of construction without permission, in addition to the destruction of many areas as a result of the battles inside the cities, which caused the cracking of many buildings.
