The United States called on the Syrian regime government to take “urgent” measures to save citizens due to the fires raging in the country.

A statement from the US embassy in Damascus said: “The United States sympathizes with the groups affected by the fires in Syria, which have caused the death of two people and dozens of injuries, as well as great material losses.” “Our feelings go out to those affected. The Syrian government must take urgent action to save lives,” he added.

This comes as the Syrian regime government’s Ministry of Health announced the deaths of four civilians, in the fires ravaging separate areas off the Syrian coast. Health Minister Hassan Muhammad Ghobash said there were two deaths in Lattakia and the same in Tartous, while the number of smoke inhalation cases in both provinces reached 87 cases.

The fires, which have raged since Friday, have displaced hundreds of residents in Tartous and Latakia, amid continued fires that devour more forests and residential and agricultural areas.

The correspondent of the Russian agency “ANHH” in Syria, Oleg Blokhin, on his Telegram channel, published a video recording showing the contribution of Russian helicopters to fighting fires on the Syrian coast and the Hama and Homs countryside. .

The recording shows that Russian helicopters transported water from the sea and dumped it over areas of the continuing fires in Syrian forests. This is Russia’s first involvement in firefighting through its aircraft, after the fire reached the outskirts of the Russian Hmeimim base in Lattakia.

And on Saturday, the Assad government’s agriculture minister, Muhammad Hassan Qatana, said the burned areas in Lattakia amounted to 600 hectares. He added: “There is a loss of farmers planted with olive trees and loaded in season, and therefore a whole public effort is lost.”

In turn, the regime news agency “SANA” said that members of the Fire Brigade and the Forest Department, in cooperation with government and civil agencies in the Tartous Governorate, extinguished more than 60 fires in the Tartous Governorate in two days.

The number of fires reached 79 in the Latakia camp, the highest number in Syria’s history. The fires in Banias caused great losses in the greenhouses and the houses of the citizens of Tartous were burned, amid fears that the fires would spread to other homes.

In Jableh camp, the area of burned land reached 2,000 dunums, according to Banjaro Mayor Munir Suleiman, who indicated that 20 houses were burned and their residents were displaced.

The head of the Lattakia ambulance system, Louai Al-Saeed, feared the presence of people trapped in rugged mountainous areas where the fire spread faster as a result of the winds, indicating that 13 cases of suffocation and two deaths were reported. .

The pumping of water from the Al-Sen spring to the Tartous governorate has also stopped due to the failure of the electrical transformer that powers the station after the fire in the area.
