On Sunday, the Sultanate of Oman launched a vaccination campaign against the new Crown, two days before the outlets were reopened to visitors, after a week of closure for fear of a mutated strain of the virus.

Oman is the latest Gulf country to launch a campaign to vaccinate the population, using the Pfizer-Bionic vaccine, like most of its neighbors.

Health Minister Ahmed Al-Saeedi told reporters at a medical center in Muscat: “The priority must be for those who are on the first lines of defense against the disease, and also for people whose disease Covid-19 it causes them a danger. ”

Oman’s Ministry of Health announced earlier this month that it had prepared a vaccination strategy that would cover 60% of the population of about five million people, which would be divided into several stages.

The Sultanate has recorded more than 128,000 cases of the virus, including 1,495 deaths.

The vaccination campaign began two days before the reopening of land, sea and air ports that were closed, as of December 22, for fear of an outbreak of the mutated strain of the virus in Great Britain.

Oman hopes to quickly welcome tourists back to its coastal and mountain resorts, especially from wealthy neighboring countries, to overcome the main economic difficulties it faces with falling oil prices.

The International Monetary Fund expects Oman’s economy to contract 10% this year, which is among the highest in the Middle East and North Africa region.

In addition to Muscat, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait closed their borders to visitors for about a week due to the new dynasty. It is assumed that the Kingdom will announce in the next few hours the reopening of the ports and the resumption of air traffic or the extension of the closure for another week.
