After Sudan and Israel reached an agreement to normalize relations between the two countries, a US administration official revealed on Thursday that Sudan had agreed to designate Lebanese Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
The decision came after the White House announced Friday that Sudan and Israel reached an agreement to normalize relations, following similar treaties between the UAE, Bahrain and Israel.
The White House said that the normalization of relations between Sudan and Israel is a new step towards peace in the Middle East under the historic Ibrahim Agreement.
US President Donald Trump joined a phone call between Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu to announce the start of diplomatic and trade relations between them.
This step coincides with the White House announcement on Friday that Trump informed Congress of his intention to remove Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
The White House said in a statement that “Sudan has transferred $ 335 million to a suspended fund to compensate the families of victims of terrorism.”
Trump vowed last Monday to remove Sudan from the US list of states that sponsor terrorism, after Khartoum agreed to pay $ 335 million in compensation to the families of terrorism victims.
Trump said in a tweet that the new Sudanese government had agreed to pay the compensation, adding in a tweet that justice would be served to the American people after a long wait and that Sudan would take a “big step.”
