A new study revealed that the mutated strain of Corona virus circulating in the UK appears to have a greater ability to spread and may lead to higher levels of patients receiving hospital treatment and deaths in the next year.
According to a study by the Center for Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Bloomberg News reported Thursday that this strain is 56 percent more contagious than any other strain. And there is no clear evidence that they lead to a more or less serious disease.
The British government previously said that the mutated strain appeared to be 70 percent more infectious than strains currently circulating.
Patrick Vallance, Britain’s chief scientific adviser, said last Saturday that there were more than twenty mutations that may have taken place in the proteins produced by the Corona virus.
It has been feared that the tests, treatments and vaccines that have been launched may be less effective, although the European health watchdog said the new strain may not be significantly different from previous strains in terms of resistance to the Pfizer and Biontech vaccine.
