A recent study found 3 new symptoms very early for infection with the emerging corona virus that causes “Covid-19”, so what are these symptoms?
The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Barcelona, included 35 patients with Covid-19, and was published on the Medrxiv website, which is a preliminary version and has not been peer-reviewed.
The researchers wrote that one of the ways to enter the emerging corona virus, whose scientific name is SARS-Cove 2, is the “nasal epithelium” (which are the cells that line the nasal cavity).
They added that while growing evidence indicates the presence of olfactory dysfunction and even loss of smell in “Covid-19” patients, it is unclear whether these patients also suffer from other “nasal” symptoms that can affect their sense of smell. Therefore, the researchers’ goal was to reveal whether early nasal symptoms existed.
After analyzing the data, the researchers said that more than 68% of “Covid-19” patients in the study reported at least one nasal symptom.
The researchers recorded 3 early nasal symptoms:
- Strange sensation in the nose
- Excessive nasal dryness
- A persistent “nasal shower” sensation
The researchers said that nasal symptoms appeared more frequently with
- Loss of smell (anosmia) or decreased sense of smell (hyposmia)
- Loss of taste (ageusia) associated with decreased sense of smell
Symptoms appeared primarily before or during the other “Covid-19” symptoms and lasted an average of 12 days.
The researchers said that the presence of these nasal symptoms and their early onset can facilitate early diagnosis of “Covid-19” and direct initial social distancing efforts.

And scientists are still discovering more about the Corona virus and its symptoms.
A recently mentioned but unknown symptom is Bell’s palsy, which is a paralysis of the facial nerve.
The Mayoclinic site says that among the symptoms of Bell’s palsy, also known as acute peripheral facial palsy, sudden weakness in the facial muscles, and this weakness is temporary in most cases, and improves significantly in weeks, and this weakness makes half of the face appear droopy. The smile is on one side and the eye does not close on that side.
The disease “Covid-19” is known to cause a wide range of symptoms and neurological problems have been reported as a complication.
