Two people died and 17 others were injured in a fire that broke out in an abandoned building on the outskirts of Barcelona, ​​Spain, where between 100 and 200 immigrants lived.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, December 9, a fire broke out in an abandoned building in the town of Badaloni, in Catalonia, in the northeast of Spain, which was inhabited by immigrants.

According to local reports, the fire killed at least two people and injured 17 others, in the building on the outskirts of Barcelona, ​​where between 100 and 200 immigrants lived in very difficult conditions.

Images and videos shared by activists on social media showed flames engulfing the building and several people trying to escape through the windows.

The fire department posted on its Twitter account that two bodies were found inside the warehouse, warning of the danger of the building collapsing. Firefighting crews are still working to control the fire.

“We were able to locate 60 people, but a lot of people got out the back windows and left. Perhaps there are still more than 100 people about to leave ”, announced the mayor of Badaloni, Xavier García Albiol.

For her part, the president of the Catalan Health Authority, Alba Vergis, indicated that two of the 17 injured are in critical condition. Several people were injured when they jumped from the building to escape the fire.
