BEIRUT (Reuters) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and an opposition source said airstrikes on a camp in northwestern Syria led by Turkish-backed opposition fighters killed at least 35 and wounded dozens. Monday.
The opposition source said the alleged Russian airstrikes targeted the Sham Legion at its base near the Turkish border, killing 35 and wounding 50 others. The source added that many are still missing.
There were no immediate comments from Moscow.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights estimates the death toll at seventy-eight, along with dozens injured.
Syrian government forces, backed by Russian air power, pushed opposition fighters to retreat to a land enclave bordering Turkey after more than nine years of conflict sparked by protests against President Bashar al-Assad. in 2011.
The opposition source said the airstrikes were targeting a camp near Kafr Takharim, about ten kilometers from the Turkish border in Idlib governorate.
