Six years later … an Egyptian security delegation visits Libya

An Egyptian security delegation held talks in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and met with the interior and foreign ministers of the United Nations-backed Government of National Accord on a visit, the first in six years.

In a statement, the Libyan Interior Ministry stated that the plenipotentiary Minister of the Interior held a high-level security meeting with the Egyptian delegation visiting Tripoli, and the meeting discussed common security challenges and ways to enhance cooperation of security between the two countries.

They also discussed ways to support the ceasefire agreement and what the 5 + 5 committee achieved to support the UN’s efforts in political dialogue and emerge from the current crisis through political and peaceful means, according to the statement.

For his part, a spokesman for the Libyan Foreign Ministry, Muhammad al-Qiblawi, said through his Twitter account that the Egyptian delegation promised the Libyan side to restore the embassy in Tripoli as soon as possible and agree on the need to develop urgent solutions. to resume Libyan flights to the capital, Cairo.

He denied that the Egyptian delegation had presented conditions to the Libyan side, saying: “The purpose of the visit was to address work to restore normal diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields.”
