Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said Thursday that Kuwait remains committed to its regional and international obligations in the Gulf.

In his speech to the Kuwait National Assembly, which unanimously agreed to take over the mandate of the Pact in the country, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Sabah referred to the virtues of the late Kuwait emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The Crown Prince stated that Kuwait, under the leadership of the Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, will continue its pioneering journey as a constitutional state with a democratic approach.

He stressed that he will work for the prosperity of Kuwait, spreading the spirit of love and tolerance, rejecting division and giving priority to the supreme national interest within the framework of the constitution.

On Thursday, Kuwait’s National Assembly unanimously approved Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to assume the mandate of the Pact in the country, according to the Kuwait News Agency.

Amiri Diwan’s Minister of Affairs, Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, stated on Wednesday that the Al Sabah family had blessed the recommendation of His Highness, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to the Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Crown Prince.

Sheikh Meshaal Al-Sabah, who holds the position of Deputy Chief of the National Guard in Kuwait, was born in 1940 and was educated at the Al-Mubarakiya School and the Hendon Police School in the United Kingdom in 1960.

He entered the Ministry of the Interior and progressed in positions until he became head of the General Investigation, with the rank of colonel from 1967 to 1980, a period in which he became the Department of State Security.

He was appointed by the late Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in 1977 as head of the Diwaniyah of the Nabat poets.

Under a decree issued in April 2014, Sheikh Meshaal was appointed Deputy Chief of the National Guard with the rank of Minister.

Sheikh Meshaal has served as the honorary president of the Kuwait Pilots Association since 1973, and is also one of the founders and honorary president of the Kuwait Radio Amateur Society.

Sheikh Meshaal is the seventh son of the 10th Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who ruled Kuwait before independence from 1921 to 1950, and is the half brother of the current Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al -Sabah and the late Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Sheikh Meshaal accompanied the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, on his recent trip for treatment in the United States of America.
