Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Stannitz sent a message to the President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Aoun, through a tweet on his personal Twitter page.
In his message, Stannitz said: “His Excellency the Lebanese President Michel Aoun, first of all, despite the current state of relations between our two countries, I would like to wish the Lebanese people not only a happy Independence Day, but also a speedy recovery from the crisis he is experiencing. It seems that you do not know all the facts on this matter, because the Lebanese side changed its positions on the maritime borders many times during the last 15 years.
“If we could meet face to face in one of the European countries to conduct open or secret negotiations, we would have a good opportunity to resolve the dispute over the maritime borders once and for all,” Stannitz added. By doing so, we can contribute to improving the economic future and well-being of the two peoples.

On Friday, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz revealed that the Lebanese state had changed its position on the maritime border with Israel more than once.
A fifth round and a long round of negotiations
A fifth round of negotiations is scheduled to take place between the Lebanese and Israeli delegations in Ras Naqoura, southern Lebanon, on December 2.
Experts expect the border demarcation negotiations to take several months, which may exceed six, especially since Israel only recognizes 860 square kilometers of the maritime area in dispute with Lebanon.
The first round of negotiations began on October 14, after years of mediation undertaken by Washington, and the second round was held on the 28th and 29th of the same month.
