It seems that the Gulf crisis with Qatar that began in 2017 is on the way to a solution, as US diplomacy works with some Gulf countries to activate reconciliation. For its part, the Saudi Foreign Ministry confirms that it is on the same line as its allies in resolving the crisis.
Today, Saturday, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, revealed that his country’s allies are “on the same page” with regard to solving the Gulf crisis, and await a final agreement by respect soon.
“We are fully cooperating with our partners regarding this process, and we see very positive prospects for reaching a final agreement,” Bin Farhan said in an interview with Agence France-Presse, adding that “all stakeholders will participate in the final solution. “.
The Saudi foreign minister stressed the need to consult “fully” with the Gulf states in the event that the nuclear agreement between the United States and Iran is revived, and stressed that it is the only way to reach a sustainable agreement.
“Basically, to fully consult with us and our regional friends about what is happening, in relation to the negotiations with Iran,” he added.
The Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister had expressed his country’s appreciation for “Kuwait’s efforts to close the gap in views regarding the Gulf crisis” and thanked the United States. “Significant progress has been made toward resolving the Gulf dispute,” he said.
In this context, the Foreign Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, announced on Friday a measure to resolve the Gulf crisis, in light of the visit of Jared Kushner, envoy of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to the region.
Qatar’s foreign minister said: “There is a movement to resolve the existing diplomatic dispute in the Gulf region, but it cannot predict an imminent breakthrough or whether this move will resolve the whole issue.”
Sources revealed to “Al-Ghad” TV that a Gulf Summit is expected to be held in Saudi Arabia in the next period, in the presence of the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad. Earlier Western reports indicated that Kushner had mediated reconciliation efforts.
Commenting on developments related to the Gulf crisis, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif welcomed the understandings announced today by Kuwait.
It is worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Emirates and Egypt announced on June 5, 2017, to cut diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar, accusing Doha of sponsoring terrorism and hitting stability in the region and not implementing the Riyadh Agreement, according to its expression. Qatar denied the accusations on its side.
On July 14, the International Court of Justice ruled in favor of Qatar in its current dispute with the Gulf states, which imposed an air embargo on it, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Appeals from the boycotting countries regarding the organization’s lack of jurisdiction over Qatar’s complaint were rejected.
