Yesterday, government offices witnessed a wide range of workshops that focused on the topic of streamlining support. Although it was divided into sectors to facilitate access to the decisions, the recommendations remained less than clear decisions and must be followed in the coming days.

Yesterday a series of meetings were held in government offices to discuss the file for rationalizing support, in an intensive workshop that issued recommendations that will be forwarded to the House of Representatives for its consideration.

The first meeting was dedicated to the health and drug support file, and was attended by the Minister of Health, Hamad Hassan, director general of Social Security, director general of Cooperation of State Employees, director of Foreign Relations of the Central , in addition to representatives of the army, internal security forces, public security and state security, the captain of hospital owners, Captain Doctors, Union of Pharmacists, representatives of the international association of pharmaceutical companies, the president of drug importers, the medical device users union, the drug strategy committee, the adviser to the President of the Republic, the adviser to Prime Minister Hassan Diab.

In context, Diab said: “The intention of the interim government was not to lift subsidies, but rather our direction from the beginning was to streamline support. The basic issues in the life of the Lebanese citizen, such as medicine and flour, are a red line for us. The difficult economic and financial conditions in Lebanon are the result of many years of bad policies.

He added: “We are holding a meeting workshop to involve all interested sectors in finding the best solution to streamline support.”

In turn, the Minister of Health said: “As interim government and as ministers, we will assume responsibility for the last life of the government, despite difficult challenges.” He explained: “We seek to ensure options for citizens, especially those with limited incomes.”

Social affairs

Later, Diab said, during the Social Affairs Plan meeting, “Our goal is to increase the number of social assistance recipients from 230,000 families to 400,000 families, and ensure the minimum level of support.”

He added: “There are those who have abused support and are studying the idea of ​​the support card with donors.” He continued: “Our goal is to streamline support and establish a new vision to ensure longer continuity.”

For his part, the Minister of Social Affairs, Ramzi Al-Musharrafieh, said that “the Syrian presence, the Crown crisis and the explosion of the port of Beirut are factors that have increased the pressure on the Lebanese economy.”

Industry

During a meeting to discuss the industry plan in Saraya, Diab said that the industry is essential and necessary because it provides hard currency revenue to the country. As for the Minister of Industry, he declared at the workshop that “our workshop will continue until solutions are found to reduce the volume of imports and we will hold meetings with the Banque du Liban.”

Fuel and flour

Furthermore, the representative of the fuel distributors, Fadi Abu Shakra, said in a statement after the meeting of the oil and energy sector in Saraya: “There will be no lifting of fuel subsidies in the near future, and attention will be focuses on the proposal to streamline support. “

The information also indicated that the interim economy minister, Raoul Nehme, will not sign the decision to lift the flour subsidies, pending the outcome of the negotiations in the coming days.
