The mayor of the Belgian city of Mall, in the province of Antwerp, noted that the death toll from the Corona virus in a nursing home has risen to 23 in the last three weeks.

The Belgian news agency quoted the mayor as confirming that “five other people who were confirmed to be infected with the Corona virus have died and thus 23 people have died” in that asylum.

Previously, 125 inmates and employees of the house were reported to be infected with the Corona virus, following the celebration of Saint Nicholas Day, which is celebrated in Belgium on December 6.

The local authorities expressed their belief that the cause of the massive contagion with the virus could be a volunteer who played the role of Saint Nicholas during the celebration, and brought traditional clothing and gifts to congratulate the neighbors of the house. A few days later, the volunteer underwent a corona test, which came back positive for the virus.

However, the home noted and confirmed that the volunteer did not remove his medical mask and gloves in the entire time he communicated with residents of the nursing home. As for the gifts, the Foundation employees brought them to the guest rooms. Sources indicated that the volunteer frequently visited the nursing home.
