Beginning on November 16, the American University of Beirut is launching a series of e-conferences that will pave the way for the birth of the Center for Palestinian Land Studies in the spring of 2021. The beginning will be with Palestinian professor and historian Salman Abu Sitta (Photo) under the title “Recovery of Palestine: 2000 years of cartography”. The future center is expected to house an extensive archive of Abu Sitta.

In the text of the call for the activity, AUB engineering professor Howayda Al-Harithi says that the center she directs aims to act as a catalyst for multidisciplinary research and a global center for public consultations and dialogues on the subject of studies on land and population in Palestine. PLSC’s primary goals include documenting and preserving Palestinian history, memory, and socio-spatial practices, producing research and publications, organizing innovative teaching curricula, and creating far-reaching networks of academics, scholars, and professionals dedicated to the Palestinian cause.
