A leading Egyptian human rights organization said security forces arrested a high-ranking member on Wednesday, three days after its managing director was arrested on charges including joining a terrorist group.
Monday’s arrest came after senior diplomats visited the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights in order to obtain information on the human rights situation on November 3.
The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights said: “Officials from the National Security Agency arrested Karim Anara, director of the organization’s criminal justice unit, this Wednesday afternoon while on vacation at the Dahab resort with view of the Red Sea, and took him to an unknown place. “
He added: “The Supreme State Security Prosecutor’s Office ordered the arrest of the organization’s administrative director, Muhammad Bashir, for 15 days, accused of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news and data and financing terrorism,” after he was arrested at his home early Sunday morning.
