“Reef 2” fits Corona

From today until October 21, the public will be in an appointment with the second edition of the festival “Reef – Environmental and Film Days” (REEF). This year, the shows will be distributed between the virtual world and Marj Bisri (South Lebanon). After the success of the first season in Akkar (North Lebanon) last year, the organizers of the event, the first of its kind in Lebanon and the Arab world, specializing in nature and rural life and its problems, decided to overcome the 2020 challenges, to take into account the second version, the following developments: corona epidemic, nature’s bounty At a time of economic collapse and collapse of the Bisri dam project.

“Reef 2020” was supposed to start from a heritage silk factory in Qobayat (Akkar), with open-air cinemas, seminars and environmental activities, and a “clean day” that launched the “Food from Nature” cycle, which would last one year. However, the spread of the epidemic in the northern city caused the cancellation of all meetings, prompting the organizers (the Environment Council in Kobayat, the Beirut DC Association and the Cultural Hall) to change the course of the festival, which will launch from the silk factory in Al Qobayat to digital cinemas. The platform “Our Films”, and another platform live in Marj Bisri. In the heart of nature and among the perennial pines, a symposium will be held: “Marj Bisri, After the Victory, where to?” In the presence of the people of the region, legal and environmental specialists and activists defending Al-Marj, followed by the screening of the film “Al-Marj” by Muhammad Sabbah.
At the same time, a short film contest for young people was launched that addresses the issue of Corona’s impact on people and nature, with the participation of 20 films, which will be voted on by the public (between October 8 and 14), before the winning entries are announced at the closing ceremony in Beirut De C. “Please note that the jury is made up of actress Rima Khcheich, actress Carole Abboud and director Ahmed Ghossein.
Our Movies will also show other productions, under three headings: the field and its characters, the earth as a political space, and the world if we reinvent it.
